Curriculum

Pupils choose to study French, German or Spanish in Year 2 where they acquire an understanding of the written and spoken language as well as an insight into French life and culture. 

In Year 3, pupils continue to study the language they chose in Year 2 and develop their knowledge of the language.

In Year 4, pupils have the opportunity to choose French, German or Spanish as an option for IGCSE if they have studied the language in Years 2 and 3. In the two years leading to the examination, equal emphasis is placed on developing the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking.

In Years 6 and 7, students may choose to study French or Spanish and develop their linguistic skills, critical and analytical skills for film and literature as well as undertaking independent research into matters of cultural and current interest in France or Spain. Emphasis is placed on oral fluency as well as grammatical accuracy and pupils are given every opportunity to form personal opinions on matters of global and individual interest.

Year 6&7 AS and A2 French Syllabus
