General Information

Entry into Year 1

English Speakers:

  • The entrance examinations in Mathematics and the candidates’ Native Language (English) are based on the primary school syllabuses and UK National Curriculum. The Non-Verbal Reasoning test is a standard secondary entry tool schools use worldwide. 
  • There will be a diagnostic test in Greek or Turkish language.  Students may be required to follow additional courses in Greek/Turkish when the academic year begins.  The mark is not included in calculating the passing mark. 
  • The English School reserves the right in each examination cycle to test the knowledge and ability of candidates in any way the School deems appropriate.

Greek Speakers:

  • The entrance examinations in Mathematics and the candidates’ Native Language (Greek) are based on the primary school syllabuses set by the Ministry of Education. The Non-Verbal Reasoning test is a standard secondary entry tool schools use worldwide. 
  • There will be a diagnostic test in the English language, which the School will use to decide whether a pupil will be required to follow an intensive course in English when the academic year begins. The mark is not included in calculating the passing mark. 
  • The English School reserves the right in each examination cycle to test the knowledge and ability of candidates in any way the School deems appropriate.


Turkish Speakers:

  • The entrance examinations in Mathematics and the candidates' Native Language (Turkish) are based on the primary school syllabuses set by the relevant Ministry of Education. The Non-Verbal Reasoning test is a standard secondary entry tool schools use worldwide.

  • There will be a diagnostic test in Greek or Turkish language.  Students may be required to follow additional courses in Greek/Turkish when the academic year begins.  The mark is not included in calculating the passing mark. Additionally, there will be consideration of a student's previous school report and performance in an interview to further access suitability for a place at The English School.
