Beyond the Classroom

The Greek Department provides students with opportunities to expand their learning through meaningful activities that foster empathy, critical skills, and active citizenship.

In collaboration with the NGO "Generation for Change," the department organises collections for refugees, focusing on essential supplies. These initiatives encourage empathy and active engagement with social issues while supporting vulnerable communities.

As an extension of their A Level Greek course research task, Year 6 students conduct interviews with refugees and volunteers in Greece. This meaningful activity enriches their understanding of migration issues and provides first-hand insights into the experiences of displaced populations.

The Greek Debate Club enhances public speaking and critical thinking skills. Highlights include debates showcasing students' eloquence and events inspiring new members to develop their communication skills and confidence.

Year 6 and 7 students attend the Digital Agenda Conference, exploring themes like digital democracy, innovation, AI-driven communication, and advances in medicine. This experience provides insights into the intersection of technology and societal progress.

Year 4 students attend a lecture on media awareness, focusing on key concepts such as fact-checking. Using contemporary examples from media, the lecture is designed to raise awareness about identifying misinformation and foster critical thinking about media consumption.

The Greek Department also organises theatrical performances aimed at engaging and enlightening students while offering an enriching cultural experience. These Ministry-approved performances explore themes relevant to teenagers, helping students recognise characters and situations they encounter daily.

Additionally, the Greek Department organises a night-out dedicated to 'rempetiko tragoudi,' centered on the film 'Ouzeri Tsitsanis,' which is part of the A Level syllabus. This event features live music from the film's soundtrack and the works of composer Tsitsanis, providing historical and cultural context.
Through these initiatives, the Greek Department ensures students engage with real-world issues and develop skills for life beyond the classroom.

Support lessons are offered weekly for Year 4 IGCSE students and as needed in preparation for external exams across all qualifications.
