Careers Programme
Careers Programme
Good career guidance is crucial if young people are to raise their aspirations and take advantage of the opportunities presented to them. At The English School we aim to provide a holistic approach to Careers Education, striving to develop our programme so that is in line with the Gatsby Benchmarks. Our Careers & University Entry programme offers our students an environment in which they are able to make informed choices, both in terms of delivery and also in terms of infrastructure. We have a dedicated Careers area adjacent to the Senior Students Study Centre, which makes our staff easily accessible to its students. We offer independent and accurate information, advice and guidance through the delivery of a structured programme of Careers Education which involves the entire school community. We aim to equip our students with transferrable skills that will assist them throughout their lives so that, ultimately, they will be able to realise their ambitions with confidence. Details of our Careers Strategy as well as the Department’s quarterly newsletter ‘Careers e-news’ can be viewed on our Department’s pages, whilst below you will find an outline of our Careers Programme:Careers Strategy
We aim to deliver a programme that will provide our students with both ‘character education’ as well as readiness for higher education and the workplace. The English School's Careers Strategy is built around the UK Government’s Careers Strategy and its adoption of eight foundation benchmarks, namely:
- A stable careers programme
- Learning from career and labour market information
- Addressing the needs of each pupil
- Linking curriculum learning to careers
- Encounters with employers and employees
- Experiences of workplaces
- Encounters with further and higher education
- Personal guidance
