Year One Entry

The 2024/2025 Entrance Exams will take place on Saturday, 2nd March  2024.

Subjects:

  • Year 1 Greek-Cypriot candidates will be examined in Greek, Mathematics and Non-Verbal Reasoning

  • Year 1 Native English candidates will be examined in English, Mathematics and Non-Verbal Reasoning

  • Year 1 Turkish-Cypriot candidates will be examined in Turkish, Mathematics and Non-Verbal Reasoning

Year 1 applicants will be examined in Maths,  English/Greek/Turkish, and Non-Verbal Reasoning (NVR).  Each subject will be weighted equally and students selected accordingly.

Candidates taking either the Greek or the Turkish papers will subsequently be required to take an English diagnostic paper at a later stage to determine whether the accepted candidates will be required to attend extra English lessons during their first year. The score of that test will not be considered in the final score but all candidates must sit this paper so correct placement is ensured.

Candidates taking the English paper will be required to take a Greek or Turkish language diagnostic test. This diagnostic test is designed to place accepted candidates at their appropriate level for Greek/Turkish language lessons. Students who do not have a background in Greek/Turkish will not be required to sit the test and will be automatically placed in our beginners class.

All candidates interested in joining the school in Year 1 must complete their primary education. Students who have not completed their primary education do not have eligibility in applying for Year 1 entry.

Mid-Programme Entry Candidates

All Mid Programme Entry candidates for Forms 2, 3 and 4 will be examined in English, Mathematics and Non-Verbal Reasoning on Saturday, 1st June. Each subject will be weighted equally and students ranked according to their performance in these three subjects.  This will be followed by a short interview with the Headmaster and Senior Assistant Head in charge of Admissions. The purpose of the interview is to get to know the applicant more, for example, their hobbies and interests, and assess their suitability for a place at The English School.

Additionally, there will be consideration of a student's previous school reports, in terms of his/her behaviour and attitude, in order to further assess whether he/she is an appropriate future student at The English School. The school reserves the right to investigate further if required.

Candidates for Forms 6 will be examined and interviewed by Heads of Department on Friday 31st May.

Year 6 candidates are accepted subject to their performance on the school examination date, and satisfactory IGCSE/GCSE results in the required subjects, with a minimum of 6 passes, grade B and above.  (A/A* grades will be required for those subjects chosen as GCE options).  Additionally, there will be consideration of a student's previous school reports and performance in an interview by the Senior Leadership Team, in order to further assess suitability for a place at The English School.

Parents will be informed in writing if their child is offered a conditional place. This acceptance can only be confirmed after the external examination results are published in August. Acceptance is also subject to available places in the requested 'A' Level (GCE) subject groups.

We wish all our candidates the best of luck in their application.
