Admission Process at The English School

Year One Entry

Entrance Exams
The 2025/2026 Entrance Exams will take place on Saturday, 22nd February 2025.

Subjects

  • Greek-Cypriot Candidates: Greek, Mathematics, Non-Verbal Reasoning
  • Native English Candidates: English, Mathematics, Non-Verbal Reasoning
  • Turkish-Cypriot Candidates: Turkish, Mathematics, Non-Verbal Reasoning

All Year 1 applicants will be examined in Mathematics, English/Greek/Turkish, and Non-Verbal Reasoning (NVR). Each subject will carry equal weight, and selections will be made accordingly.

Additional Language Diagnostic Tests

  • Greek and Turkish Paper Candidates: Must take an English diagnostic test to determine if extra English lessons are needed.
  • English Paper Candidates: Must take a Greek diagnostic test for language placement. Students without a Greek background will be placed in a beginners’ class.

Eligibility
Applicants must have completed their primary education to be eligible for Year 1 entry.

How to Apply
Applications can be submitted online from 20th January to 14th February. Ensure that all required documentation is sent by Friday, 14th February, 2:00 PM.

Scholarships
The English School offers scholarships for outstanding Year 1 entrants based on their Entrance Examination performance:

  • First Place: 100% of Year 1 tuition fees
  • Second Place: 50% of Year 1 tuition fees
  • Third Place: 50% of Year 1 tuition fees

Mid-Programme Entry

Entrance Exams
Mid-Programme Entry Exams for Forms 2, 3, and 4 will take place on Saturday, 31st May. Candidates will be examined in:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Non-Verbal Reasoning

Each subject carries equal weight, and candidates will also attend a short interview with the Headmaster and Senior Assistant Head to discuss their interests and suitability.

Additional Considerations

  • Previous school reports will be reviewed to assess behavior and attitude.
  • The school reserves the right to conduct further investigations if necessary.

Year 6 Entry

Candidates for Form 6 will be examined and interviewed by Heads of Department on Friday, 30th May.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 IGCSE/GCSE passes (grade B or above), with A/A grades required for chosen GCE options*.
  • Satisfactory school reports and performance in an interview with the Senior Leadership Team.

Conditional Acceptance
Parents will receive written notification if their child is offered a conditional place. Final acceptance is subject to external examination results in August and availability in the requested 'A' Level (GCE) subject groups.
