Antonis is currently a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Cyprus. He completed his undergraduate studies in Biology in 1999 at Lawrence University, USA and then in 2004, obtained his PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. He then moved to Cambridge University, UK, where he engaged in undergraduate teaching and completed his post-doctoral research in 2009. 

Towards the end of 2009, Antonis joined the University of Cyprus as an Assistant Professor, where he established his research laboratory by securing competitive European and national funding. He served first as Vice-Chair and then as Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences from 2019  to 2023, managing academic, administrative and financial affairs. He is also a member of various scientific and academic boards and societies, with responsibilities including advising and evaluating undergraduate and post-graduate programs of study. 

Antonis has two children who are students at The English School. He was appointed as a member of The English School Board of Management in February 2024.
