Xīnnián kuàilè, Happy New Year!

The assembly began with a beautiful performance of the traditional Chinese piece "Silver cloud chasing the Moon" on the piano by Peiqi Song. This was followed by a violin duet performance of the lively Chinese New Year song "Gong Xi Fa Cai" with YouYou Tian and XiTon Peng, accompanied by Xilin Su on the piano. The Junior Choir closed the musical interlude with a wonderful performance of the song "Mo Li Hua", accompanied by Ioannis Kykkos Skordis on the bassoon, Yixuan Xie, and Zilin Su on the piano.

Ms Chen Shijia then presented an engaging and informative talk about the traditions and importance of the Lunar New Year, as well as the legend of Nian. Our students participated by answering questions, learning how to pronounce phrases in Mandarin, and writing the Chinese character Fu (福), which means good luck.

At the event's closing, the six Year 1 class representatives hung a good luck charm on the Wish Tree prepared by the Art Club. On Monday, January 22nd, all Year 1 students created their own wish with Chinese characters on a template created by the Art Department and added it to the tree. They wished for the new Lunar Year to bring love, good luck, hope, wisdom, and happiness.

The Chinese Lunar New Year is a time of reunion, celebration, and time to reflect and light the path for new experiences and beginnings. We want to extend our warmest wishes to our community for a Happy Year of the Rabbit! 祝您兔年愉快!

AS French students get a taste of the French “Vasilopita”.

Festival and traditions are one of the theme studies in Alevel, so it was an opportunity for them to discover this French custom. The French have been serving up galette des rois since the 14th century. Traditionally, it is served on January 6th – the 12th day of Christmas – to celebrate the Epiphany, a religious feast day commemorating the arrival of the Three Kings to the manger where Jesus was born. These days, it is eaten throughout January and is simply a festive way to celebrate the new year with family and friends.

Erasmus+ promoting gender equality

Exchange of good practice with partners from European countries through Erasmus+ programs continues at our school, this time in collaboration with the Center for Social Innovation (CSI) and within the framework of the Erasmus+ project 'VRIJE BALL FOR ALL' (free translation: "Free opportunities for everyone").
Korfball is a traditional Dutch sport (not so much known in Cyprus, Italy, and Croatia). It addresses the problem of gender inequality and gender stereotypes in sports as it is played in teams of mixed gender.

The project aims to promote gender equality through sports among students and to spread the use and the game of korfball among professionals in different countries. The training includes an introduction to the basic rules of korfball, management and organization of activities, observations of korfball training at a local club, as well as a discussion on gender equality, the inclusion of people with disabilities and special educational needs, and strategies to deal with other potential problems such as bullying.
