Finale of Arts Week 2024: A Celebration of Talent and Creativity

The final day of Arts Week commenced with a burst of energy as Band5A took the stage, showcasing their original compositions with gusto. Featuring the talents of Leonidas Zarifis, Daphne Charalambous, Yitian Wang, Platon Trapelides, and Peiqi Song, their performance set the perfect tone for the day ahead, infusing the atmosphere with infectious enthusiasm.

Following suit, Melina Angelides and Juliana Hills mesmerized the audience with their rendition of "Locked Out of Heaven," accompanied by the skilled musicianship of Iasonas Maratheftis on piano, Stefanos Georgiou on bass, and Yifu Zhou on drums. Their harmonious melodies and soulful voices resonated throughout the venue, leaving a lasting impression on all in attendance.

A highlight of the day was the captivating performance by members of the Junior and Senior Wind Bands, who delivered a spellbinding rendition of Holst’s “Jupiter.” Nedi Avraam, Andrea Iacovou, and Nefeli Polyviou on flute, Stephanos Georgiou on oboe, Eleana Iacovou, Christos Michael, and Angelos Michael on saxophone, Eleni Damianou on clarinet, and Nikolas Themistou on trumpet, showcased their exceptional talent and dedication to their craft, earning them thunderous applause from the audience.

As the curtains closed on Arts Week 2024, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the performers who graced the stage and enriched our closing day with their artistry and passion. Their contributions added a special touch to our celebration of talent and creativity, leaving an indelible mark on our memories.

Victorious Victory: The English School U15 Girls Triumph Over AEL Limassol

From the opening whistle, it was evident that The English School meant business. The first half saw our girls dominating possession and dictating the tempo of the game. Anna-Maria set the tone with a remarkable goal, skillfully hooking the ball with the outside of her foot into the top corner, leaving the opposition goalkeeper stranded.

However, football is a game of twists and turns, and AEL Limassol fought back valiantly, equalizing against the run of play. Yet, our girls displayed incredible resilience and determination. Maria, with her unwavering focus, restored our lead with a sublime curling effort into the bottom corner, showcasing her precision and composure under pressure.

As the game entered its final stages, the tension was palpable. With the score tied at 2-2, it was a test of character for The English School. But true to their spirit, our girls rose to the occasion. A moment of brilliance ensued as Victoria initiated a swift counterattack with a precise long pass, setting the stage for Maria's second goal of the match, a testament to her anticipation and clinical finishing.

With victory within reach, Nayia put the game beyond doubt with a well-placed shot, capping off a stellar performance from the entire team. From defense to attack, every player contributed with grit and determination, embodying the true essence of teamwork and camaraderie.

Celebrating Success at the Nicosia Athletics Competitions!

Day 1 Highlights:

  • Sophia Hadjipanayiotou leapt to a commendable 4th place in High Jump.
  • Leni Solomou and Kyveli Matsi dashed their way to the finals of the 1000M.
  • Constantina Marnelou sprinted to qualify for the 80M finals.
  • Stephie Dracou showed her speed, qualifying for the 150m.
  • Simoni Diaouri and Emily Nicolaou achieved 3rd and 4th positions in Triple Jump, respectively.
  • Katerina Hadjigeorgi clinched 2nd place in Discus.
  • Maria Michaela Chatziiosif and Melina Loizou ran into the finals of 600M.
  • Alya Kivanchli and Ioanna Philippou powered through to the finals of 300M.
  • Our dynamic relay team also qualified for the finals: Marnelou Constantina, Fouli Irene, Stephie Dracou, and Ioanna Ioannou!

Day 2 Achievements:

  • Nefeli Demetriades secured 1st place in Javelin.
  • Ioanna Ioannou soared to 1st in Pole Vault.
  • The JG Relay team grabbed a solid 2nd place.
  • Leni Solomou and Maria Michaela Chatziiosif reached 3rd in 1000m and 600m respectively.
  • Stephie Dracou and Elia Vasiliou took 4th place in 150m and Shotput.
  • Kiveli Matsi, Constantina Marnelou, Ioanna Philippou, Mavroudi Kyriaki demonstrated their skill, securing positions in their respective events.
  • Melina Loizou and Marielena Neophytou also showed great effort, finishing in their events with notable positions.

Nicosia Schools Athletics Competition

Except for the effort and commitment that they put into their athletics events, they were great ambassadors for our School.  In addition, they excelled in competition, and we had the following top-six placements over the two days:

Our athletes who finished in the top 3 have qualified for the Pancyprian Schools Competition, which will take place in Limassol on Thursday, 11th April 2024.  Students who finished in positions 4-6 may still qualify based on their record that they achieved, but we will not know this until nearer the time of the competition.

The English School Boys Shine in Nicosia Private Schools Futsal Tournament

Led by coaches Nicolas Costa, Andy Ioannou, and Yiannos Papaioannou, the teams showcased their prowess and determination throughout the tournament, earning praise for their outstanding efforts.

The Senior Boys Team, comprised of Paris Hadjikyriakou, Andreas Pattichis, Socratis Tsadiotis, Leandros Elia, Aris Paglas, Georgios Vasilopoulos, Giannis Papadopoulos, Gabriel Georgiou, Alexandros Sophocleous, Michalis Demetriou, and Andreas Hadjiyiannis, under the captaincy of Dimitris Magnitis, displayed remarkable teamwork and skill on the futsal court.

Similarly, the Junior Boys Team, consisting of Kyriacos Makris, Loizos Constantinou, Aristotelis Christodoulides, Antonis Kyriakides, Panos Tsentas, Emmanouil Fotiou, Constantinos Chourides, Andreas Roussos, Marios Constantinou, Aris Kythreotis, Alexandros Raffi Parikian, Themis Rossos, and Alexandros Middlenton, exhibited a commendable performance, showcasing their talent and commitment to the sport.

Throughout the tournament, both teams played brilliantly in all their games, demonstrating exceptional teamwork, sportsmanship, and determination. Despite facing tough competition, they remained focused and determined, showcasing their resilience and passion for futsal.

The English School community is immensely proud of the Senior and Junior Boys teams for their outstanding performance in the Nicosia Private Schools Futsal Tournament. Their dedication, hard work, and sportsmanship are a true testament to the values instilled by the school.

This match was marked by several debut appearances for some of the younger members of our football team, who took to the field for the first time in a competitive setting. Despite the loss, it was a valuable learning experience for these budding players as they gained crucial match exposure and began their journey towards becoming future stars of the English School Girls' Football Team.

Nayia Stephanou showcased her talent with two impressive goals, demonstrating her prowess with well-placed shots. Additionally, Emily Nikolaou and Kyveli Matsi came close to scoring on multiple occasions, showcasing their determination and skill.

The standout feature of the match was the chemistry and link-up play between Nayia and Kyveli, hinting at a promising partnership for the team in the future. It was heartening to witness the teamwork and camaraderie on display, as well as the resilience of our players in the face of a strong opponent.
