GSP Student-Athletes Shine at Pancyprian U-16 Athletics Competition

Antonios Kyriakides showcased his prowess by clinching:

  • 1st Place in the 150m race
  • 3rd Place in the 80m sprint

Ioanna Ioannou soared to victory with an impressive:

  • 1st Place in the Pole Vault event

Constandinos Kyriakos Pedonomou Middleton delivered strong performances, securing:

  • 1st Place in the 300m Hurdles
  • 4th Place in the 600m race

In the U-14 category, Maria Michaela Hadjiosef achieved:

  • 5th Place in the 600m race

Ioannis Frangesco Hadjiosef also excelled in the U-14 category, finishing:

  • 6th Place in the 600m race

These achievements underscore the dedication and hard work of our athletes, who have not only represented GSP with pride but have also set a high standard in Cyprus athletics.

Team ‘ANEMOS’ Triumphs at F1 in Schools Cyprus Nationals 2024

The English School has long been recognized for its commitment to excellence in education and extracurricular achievements. This victory further cemented its reputation, as Team ‘ANEMOS’ showcased their exceptional engineering, aerodynamics, and race strategy skills.

Team ANEMOS is comprised of talented students: Giorgos Lois, Antrea Antonia Mavrommatis, Celine Yiasemides, Alexandra Violari, Sophia Panayides, and Emilia Karmioti. Their collaborative effort and innovative thinking were key to their success at the national level.

The trophy presentation was a highlight of the event. Dr Antonis Kirmizis, a board member of The English School, Mr Christos Karpis, a distinguished alumnus currently with Scuderia Ferrari, and Mr Stuart Walker, the Headmaster of The English School, honoured the winners. The presence of such notable figures underscored the significance of the competition and the remarkable achievements of the students involved.

As the newly crowned national champions, Team ANEMOS is gearing up to represent Cyprus at the world finals of the F1 in Schools competition. The venue for this prestigious international event has yet to be announced, but anticipation is already building.

The F1 in Schools competition is renowned for its ability to challenge students to apply their STEM knowledge in a practical, exciting way. Participants not only develop technical skills but also gain valuable experience in teamwork, problem-solving, and communication.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Presentation Ceremony

On the occasion of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Presentation Ceremony this year we were delighted to welcome to the school H.E. the British High Commissioner, Mr Irfan Siddiq, as a guest of honour. He was thrilled to attend the event and present the new Gold Awardees with their certificates and pin badges.
 
The Award programme at our school has had a remarkably successful year, with students excelling in all its challenging components. The surge in involvement underscores the programme's growing popularity and its effectiveness in fostering personal development.
 
This year's achievements in the Award programme have not only equipped students with invaluable life skills but also fostered a sense of accomplishment and confidence that will undoubtedly benefit them in future endeavours. The event was a wonderful celebration of our students' hard work, dedication, and achievements. This academic year has been remarkable with a total of 201 Award completions (139 Bronze Awards, 51 Silver Awards and 11 Gold Awards) so far.

Astronomy Club meet NASA Scientist

Hearing about her work with NASA's James Webb Space Telescope and upcoming NASA missions was exciting.  We also had the chance to chat with her on a one-to-one basis about her work and the future of the space industry, and she gave us feedback on our very own projects and experiments.  During this special evening, we rubbed shoulders with ministers, scientists and space industry leaders.  We feel very privileged to have been invited by US Ambassador Fisher to this special event and would like to thank the US embassy staff for this amazing opportunity.

GSP Athletes Triumph at the Matseia Athletics Competition

The competition, held on June 1st and 2nd, 2024, attracted athletes from across Cyprus, each aiming to test their mettle against the best in the country. Our athletes, Andrea Georgiou and Evangelos Petasis, represented our school with distinction and competitive spirit.

Athlete Performance:

Andrea Georgiou:

  • 400m Race: Andrea competed fiercely in the 400m race, securing a commendable 5th place. Her performance was marked by her exceptional stamina and speed.
  • 4x400m Relay: The highlight of her participation was the 4x400m relay, where she played a crucial role in leading the GSP Relay Team to a 1st place victory. This win is a testament to the teamwork and dedication of our athletes.

Evangelos Petasis:

  • 100m Dash: Evangelos kicked off the competition with the 100m dash on the first day, finishing in 5th place with a strong display of speed and agility.
  • 200m Sprint: On the second day, he competed in the 200m sprint and not only achieved 3rd place but also set a new personal best time of 21.73 seconds. This outstanding achievement has qualified him for the U-18 European Championship later this year, marking him as a rising star in athletics.

We are immensely proud of both Andrea and Evangelos for their achievements at the Matseia Athletics Competition. Their hard work, determination, and sportsmanship have brought honor to GSP and set a high standard for their fellow athletes.
