What’s On
On the occasion of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Presentation Ceremony this year we were delighted to welcome back to the school H.E. the Minister of Health, Dr Popi Kanari, as a guest of honour. Dr Kanari is an English School graduate and she completed the Bronze and Silver Awards while at the school. She briefly worked at the school as a Chemistry teacher and also helped with the delivery of the Award during that time. The Minister has 2 sons who are also English School graduates and they were also involved with the Award during their time at the school. She gained a strong connection with the Award over the years and she was thrilled to attend the event and present the new Silver Awardees with their certificates.
During the event it was also a great pleasure welcoming the 1973 Gold Awardees back to the school to celebrate their 50 year anniversary since they completed their Gold Award. They all had very fond memories from when they did their Gold Award and they all had some very interesting stories to share. Magda Nicholson, Athenoula Yiatrou, Athena Themistocleous, Maria Stavrou, Frosoula Christofidou, Elias Pantelides, Angelos Toumazos and Angelos Beshonges attended the event, but unfortunately Noel Boutros and Surpic Tamizian were not able to attend.
This academic year has been remarkable with a record of 247 Award completions (204 Bronze Awards and 43 Silver Awards) so far. This is the greatest number of Award completions in a single academic year at the school. The 247 Award completions place our school 1st across hundreds of Awards Centres around the world, with the greatest number of Award completions during this academic year. This is an incredible accomplishment as no other Award Centre worldwide has a number of completions anywhere close to this number.
Congratulations to all the new Awardees for their great achievement!
