What’s On
On Friday, 20th March 2026, our Year 7 students attended an inspiring assembly focused on inclusion and raising awareness of neurodiversity.
We were honoured to welcome the President of Voice for Autism, Ms Ellen Georgiou Pontikis, who spoke about the importance of building a more inclusive society. We also heard from a representative of True Heart Café, a remarkable organisation that employs 18 individuals on the autism spectrum, promoting independence, opportunity, and inclusion within the community.
The assembly encouraged students to reflect on the values of respect, empathy, and the role each of us plays in creating a more inclusive environment for all.
“Inclusion starts with understanding, grows with empathy, and becomes real through our actions.”
Economics Society Welcomes Mr Yiannis Georgiou for Insightful Talk on Education, Opportunity and the Future
On Friday, 20 March 2026, the Economics Society was delighted to welcome Mr Yiannis Georgiou, who gave an engaging and thought-provoking talk to our students titled The Generation with the Unfair Advantage: Why You Were Born with the Ultimate Cheat Codes.
During his presentation, Mr Georgiou encouraged students to think positively about the world they are growing up in and the opportunities available to them today. He spoke about the value of education, the changing experience of studying abroad, and the major global shifts that are shaping the future.
A particularly memorable part of the talk was his idea that this generation has its own unique “cheat codes” — including artificial intelligence, the creator economy, and a growing awareness of mental health and self-understanding. His message was both inspiring and reassuring: young people today have powerful tools at their fingertips and great potential to shape their own future.
We are very grateful to Mr Georgiou for taking the time to speak to the Economics Society and for sharing such valuable insights with our students. It was an inspiring session that gave everyone plenty to reflect on.
On 17th March, The English School proudly participated in the Interschool Tennis Tournament held at The Masters Academy, Nicosia, with a team of four athletes: two boys and two girls.
Our girls’ team, Sophia Cagnetti and Vasiliki Pourgouridou, performed very well and showed great determination throughout the competition. Although they narrowly missed out on qualification for the semi-finals, they represented the school with excellent effort and sportsmanship.
Our boys’ team, Andreanos Kyriakides and Yiannis Leontis, had an outstanding run in the tournament, reaching the final after a series of strong performances. After a tough and competitive match, they secured second place and proudly brought home the silver medal.
All four athletes delivered excellent performances and made the school proud with their dedication, teamwork, and sporting spirit.
Well done to our team on this wonderful achievement.
ERASMUS+ Project: Sports Internships
We were delighted to host three students from Belgium, Marie De Schrijver, Florian De Lange, and Vin Bruneel, who completed their internships with the PE Department from 2–13 March 2026 as part of an ERASMUS+ project.
During their two-week placement, the students worked closely with our PE teachers, shadowing lessons, supporting activities, and leading a range of sports sessions. They also engaged with our students, sharing perspectives on the Belgian education system and learning more about The English School curriculum.
Throughout their time with us, our visitors developed valuable communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills while working alongside both our staff and external specialist coaches. The placement also gave them the opportunity to strengthen their coaching experience in a culturally diverse environment and gain meaningful experience for their own professional development.
We are very pleased to have been part of this exchange and look forward to the possibility of welcoming more students through similar programmes in the future.
On Monday, 16 March, The English School travelled to American Academy Larnaca for a series of exciting 7v7 football fixtures, with more than 25 students representing the school across three teams: the Year 1–3 Girls, the Year 2 Boys, and the Year 3 Boys.
The afternoon was filled with energy, determination, and excellent sportsmanship, as all three teams competed with great enthusiasm and pride.
The Year 1–3 Girls produced a strong performance and took the lead in the first half thanks to a superb finish from Despina Panayides. The team worked tirelessly throughout the match, but American Academy found a late equaliser in the closing stages, with the game ending 1–1.
The Year 3 Boys showed tremendous resilience and character. After falling 3–0 behind, they mounted an impressive comeback, reducing the deficit to 3–2 with two outstanding goals from Michalis Christofides. Despite their spirited effort, American Academy managed to score again, and the match finished 4–2.
The Year 2 Boys also delivered a very competitive performance. They went 1–0 ahead through a composed finish by Markos Mavrides and looked strong for much of the game. However, a late goal from the hosts meant the match ended in a 1–1 draw.
The event was a wonderful celebration of participation, teamwork, and healthy competition across all age groups. Most importantly, it brought great joy to all those involved and highlighted the strong sporting spirit of our students. We hope this will continue as an annual tradition and look forward to future fixtures against American Academy Larnaca.

It proved to be a highly successful and memorable event, as both teams delivered outstanding performances and secured first place in their respective categories.

Economics Society Welcomes Dr Anthoulla Phella
On 6th February, the Economics Society had the pleasure of welcoming Dr Anthoulla Phella from the University of Glasgow’s Adam Smith Business School for an insightful session on Econometrics and the transition from A Level Economics to university study.
Dr Phella introduced students to the field of econometrics, explaining how it combines economic theory, mathematics and statistics to analyse data and answer real-world economic questions. The session helped students understand how economists move beyond theory to test ideas, measure relationships and interpret evidence in a rigorous and meaningful way.
The talk also provided a valuable overview of how the study of Economics develops from A Level to university level. Students were encouraged to think about the increased emphasis on analytical skills, independent thinking and quantitative methods in higher education, as well as the exciting opportunities that come with studying economics at an advanced level.
This was an excellent opportunity for students to gain a clearer picture of what to expect from university-level Economics and to engage with an academic working in the field. We are very grateful to Dr Phella for sharing her time and expertise with the Society.
Economics Society Guest Speaker Explores Cybersecurity
On Friday, 13th February, the Economics Society welcomed a guest speaker for an engaging and thought-provoking session on Cybersecurity.
Students were introduced to what cybersecurity means in today’s digital world and why it is becoming increasingly important across all sectors of society. The talk explored the growing need to protect personal data, businesses, institutions and national systems from cyber threats, highlighting the far-reaching impact of security breaches in an increasingly connected world.
The session also gave students an insight into Digital Forensics, showing how experts investigate cyber incidents and trace digital evidence. In addition, the speaker discussed hacking and offensive security, helping students understand how ethical hacking can be used to identify weaknesses and strengthen systems before they are exploited maliciously.
An important part of the talk focused on the role of laws and regulations in cybersecurity, emphasising the legal and ethical responsibilities that come with working in this field. Students were encouraged to think critically about the balance between technological advancement, privacy, security and accountability.
The event was a valuable opportunity for students to explore a rapidly developing field that connects technology, business, law and economics, and to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities of the digital age.
