In Memory of Vrahimis Petri

Born in the village of Karpassia, Mr. Petri was the eldest of 11 children. His remarkable journey began when he was sent to the English School on the recommendation of his elementary school teacher, with the hope of becoming a civil servant. He quickly distinguished himself, earning a Government scholarship to further his studies in Mathematics at prestigious institutions, including Aston University and London University, before completing postgraduate studies in Education at the University of Oxford.

Upon returning to Cyprus, Mr. Petri took up a teaching position at the English School in 1971. For over three decades, he worked tirelessly to guide countless students toward academic and personal excellence. His influence shaped generations, helping them grow into responsible, compassionate adults.

Beyond the classroom, Mr. Petri's contributions to the school were vast. His commitment to First Aid was unwavering, having served as the Staff Officer of the School's St John's Ambulance Brigade for 13 years. His dedication earned him the Victoria Service Medal and the Cross of the Brother of the Order of St. John—honours that highlighted his tireless service.

His other great love was hockey, and for 15 years, he coached the school’s hockey team, inspiring his players with passion and dedication. Under his guidance, the team rose to prominence, earning a respected reputation across the island.

Mr. Petri's leadership extended further when the need arose. He served as Housemaster for the Reds for five years, motivating students with his boundless zeal. Later, when the school required a Safety Officer, he stepped up once again, serving in the role for over 20 years and ensuring the well-being of students and staff alike.

Mr. Petri’s absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his legacy of service, education, and care will continue to inspire us. We extend our deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time and hope that they find comfort in the knowledge that his memory will forever live on within our school community.

Rest in peace, Mr. Petri. You will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

European Researchers’ Night 2024: Showcasing Innovation and Student Excellence

The event attracted the interest of both young and old, drawing hundreds of researchers, entrepreneurs, and innovators from universities, research organizations, centers of excellence, and forward-thinking companies across the country.

As part of the event, students were invited to present a topic of their choice related to the European Missions—the focal theme of the 2024 competition. This year, the event was held under the European Project "MISSION POSSIBLE: RESEARCHERS ON BOARD FOR AN INCLUSIVE AND SUSTAINABLE FUTURE."

We are proud to recognise our four outstanding students, Elena Tian, Stella Ioannou, Olympia Xenofondos, and Georgios Giannopoulos, who took part in the "Science Unfold" competition. Each student was tasked with presenting a scientific invention that connects research and innovation to address pressing global challenges. With only 3 minutes and a maximum of 3 PowerPoint slides, they showcased their innovative ideas in fields such as healthcare system improvements in Cyprus, new cancer-fighting medicine, and cutting-edge technology.

Their impressive presentations highlighted their creativity, research skills, and passion for contributing to a better, more sustainable future. We commend them for their efforts and look forward to their continued success!
