The second tournament of the 1st Cyprus Schools Grand Prix hosted at The English School

We had 107 participants from more than 25 schools all around Cyprus.  The event occurred at the  Study Centre, and the players competed in a series of chess games from 11 am until 4 pm.

The English School came first in the Juniors Division (Years 1-3) and the Seniors Division (Years 4-7).  Moreover, our student Pavlos Chrysostomou (Year 4) came first in the individual players' standings, having won all seven matches against his opponents.

We want to congratulate all 107 students who participated in the event, from kindergarten, primary and secondary school students.  They all showed tremendous courage and sportsmanship!

We are incredibly proud of our students who represented the school and look forward to welcoming more students to future tournaments.

Celebrating Talent!

Three Year 1 girls, Lia Petrou 1R, Melina Angelides 1W and Juliana Hills 1W performed songs for their classmates in celebration of talent and the arts in our lives.
Lia sang an emotional version of ‘True Colors’ followed by an exciting performance of the song ‘Valerie” by Melina. The assembly closed with  Juliana’s moving performance of Bohemian Rhapsody.

The girls were accompanied on the piano by Mr Andreas Pantelis, the jazz/pop piano instructor at the school’s instrumental programme.

There was a short presentation by the Music Department which focused on the importance of a growth mindset and how perseverance, hard work and dedication strengthen our talents.
We look forward to seeing many more performances by our talented year 1 student in upcoming shows. As Einstein once said, “ I have no special talents. I am just passionately curious.”
