Three English School Students Selected to Represent Cyprus at the 19th Geographical Olympiad

After a rigorous selection process, it was announced that Giannis Agapiou had secured the first place, while Iraklis Giorgallis and Daphne Stavrides had come in third and fourth respectively. Lily Makriyiannis was named the 2nd Runner Up. All four students are from The English School, and they have made the school proud with their exceptional performance.

Giannis Agapiou, Iraklis Giorgallis, and Daphne Stavrides have been selected to represent Cyprus at the 23rd Geographical Olympiad, which will take place in Indonesia from August 8th to 14th. The Geographical Olympiad is an international competition that brings together students from all over the world to showcase their knowledge and skills in geography. It is a prestigious event that provides students with a unique opportunity to learn and grow.

Year 5 Students Celebrate Success in Inter-House Athletics Competition

Two of the students who received medals were Giorgos Agapiou and Nedi Avraam. Giorgos won 1st place in the Shot Put, while Nedi came 2nd in the Javelin. Both students were applauded by their classmates and teachers, and Mr Lambon, who presented the medals, offered his congratulations.

The Inter-House Athletics Competition is an annual event at our School, and it is always highly anticipated by students and staff alike. The competition involves a range of track and field events, such as sprints, relays, long jump, high jump, shot put, and javelin. Each house has a team of students who compete against the other houses to earn points, and the winning house is awarded the coveted Inter-House Athletics trophy.

For Year 5 students, the competition is a chance to show off their athletic abilities and work together as a team. It is also an opportunity to develop their physical skills and improve their fitness. Throughout the competition, students are encouraged to support and cheer on their teammates, as well as show good sportsmanship towards their opponents.

The medal presentation was a proud moment for Giorgos, Nedi, and all of the Year 5 students who took part in the Inter-House Athletics Competition. It was a reminder of the hard work and dedication that goes into preparing for and competing in sports events. The students are already looking forward to next year's competition and are eager to continue building their skills and achieving success.

We believe that sports and physical activity play an important role in a child's education. U15 Girls Football Team Shines at Ayia Napa Tournament 2023

The tournament took place from April 9th to April 11th, with the venue being Ayia Napa. Our team faced some strong opponents in the group stage, including Anorthosis FC, Pafos FC, Olympiacos Piraeus, and Omonoia FC. Despite losing two of their group matches, the girls managed to progress to the knockout stage.

In the semi-finals, our team once again faced Omonoia FC but lost 3-0. However, our team's performance was commendable, with Maria Leandrou and Victoria Georgopoulou scoring two spectacular goals. Both goals were scored from a considerable distance and with excellent technique and power.

Throughout the tournament, the U15 Girls' Football Team showed significant development and a great level of teamwork. They proved that they were not afraid to face big teams and could stand up to them without fear. This was a testament to the hard work put in by the girls during training and the guidance of their coach, Mr Andreas Anastasiades.

The team also received a special award at the tournament for their sportsmanship and fair play, which is a testament to their respect for their opponents and the game.

The U15 Girls Football Team comprises of Andrea Iacovou, Victoria Georgopoulou, Nikoletta Christophorou, Popi Koumenidi, Irene Yianna, Andrea Christodoulidou, Marielena Neophytou, Maria Leandrou, Anna Maria Menelaou, Emily Nicolaou, Kyveli Matsis, Nayia Stephanou, Anna Maria Hadjantona, Andreana Epiphaniou, and Elia Vasiliou.

Overall, the U15 Girls' Football Team has made our school proud with their exceptional performance at the Ayia Napa Tournament 2023. Congratulations to the team and their coach for their hard work and dedication. We look forward to seeing their continued success in future tournaments.

Announcing Outstanding Achievements of Students in Kangourou Mathematics Competition 2022-2023

The competition is open to all students, from primary to secondary schools, who want to test their problem-solving skills and compete with their peers. The Mathematics Department would like to extend their congratulations to all the students who participated in the Kangourou Mathematics Competition in 2022-2023.

The Kangourou Mathematics Competition is divided into different levels based on the student's age and grade level. This year, we had participants in levels 7 to 12. The Mathematics Department is pleased to announce that we have a group of outstanding students who have achieved remarkable results in the competition.

At level 7, two of our students received the Bronze Award for their outstanding performance. The same achievement was awarded to two students in level 10. In level 8, two students were awarded the Silver Award, which is a fantastic accomplishment. Our only Gold Award was given to a student in level 9, which is a testament to their excellent problem-solving abilities. Level 11 was a highly competitive level, and we are proud to have one Gold and two Bronze Awards from this level. Finally, in level 12, one student received the Silver Award for their exceptional performance.

We would like to congratulate all our students who participated in the competition and worked hard to achieve their goals. We are immensely proud of all our students' achievements and their dedication to mathematics. We hope that this achievement will motivate them to continue to develop their mathematical skills and further their education in the field.

The Kangourou Mathematics Competition is an excellent opportunity for students to challenge themselves and compete with their peers. It is also an opportunity for them to develop a love for mathematics and to see the exciting possibilities that come with pursuing a career in the field. We encourage all our students to participate in the next Kangourou Mathematics Competition and to continue to strive for excellence in mathematics. Our Basketball Team Shines at Second Showcase Event

Nine of our talented basketball players, namely George Marnelos, Yakinthi Koronaki, Aziz Fuat, Stavros Rossos, Savvas Milincovic, Simoni Agroti, Ioannis Giannakou, Orestis Herodotou, and Glafkos Constantinou, put their best foot forward and performed exceptionally well at the event. Their performance was a testament to the skills they had gained through rigorous training and dedication to the sport.

The showcase offered the athletes an opportunity to gain valuable experience in the highly competitive basketball world. Their participation in the event will help them develop their skills and boost their confidence, giving them an edge in their future basketball endeavours.

Head of basketball development, Andreas Sizopoulos, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome of the showcase, stating that the players had a great time while also performing to the best of their abilities. The showcase provided a platform for the athletes to showcase their talents and possibly secure scholarships in the United States.

Our Basketball team has yet again proved that they are a force to be reckoned with in the sport. The showcase was a resounding success, and the school is proud of the athletes' performance. The English School Hosts Successful Annual Tennis Tournaments

The Boys' Competition Final was an intense battle that went all the way to a tie-break. Ultimately, Ioannis Lambrou emerged victorious, maintaining his composure to defeat Andreas Constantinides and clinch the championship.

On the other hand, the Girls' Competition was played in a round-robin format, with consistent play determining the winner. Victoria Georgopoulou proved to be the most consistent player, winning the tournament, with Nayia Stephanou finishing in second place.

All participants demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and were commended for their hard work and dedication. We congratulate all the players for their fantastic efforts and impressive skills.

We are also grateful to Mr Ioannides for his supervision of the tournaments and continuous efforts to promote tennis at the school. We hope to continue to host such successful events and encourage more students to participate in sports and physical activity.

Overall, the Annual Tennis Tournaments were a huge success and highlighted the school's commitment to promoting sports and a healthy lifestyle among its students.

Art Students Participate in Soap Making Workshop at CyHerbia Botanical Gardens

A group of seventeen students, accompanied by their art teacher, attended the workshop and had an enjoyable experience. The workshop allowed the students to learn about the art of soap making and to make their own soaps from scratch. The students were guided through the process of selecting and mixing the right ingredients and choosing their preferred scents and colours.

In addition to the soap-making workshop, the students also had the opportunity to take a walk through the beautiful gardens and labyrinth. The gardens were bursting with colours, and the students were able to appreciate the different plants and flowers that were on display. The labyrinth was another highlight of the trip, with its winding paths and beautiful surroundings.

Although the art teacher did not participate in the workshop, she monitored the group closely and ensured everything ran smoothly. The students were thrilled with their creations and could not wait to take them home to show their families and friends.

Overall, the day trip to CyHerbia Botanical Gardens was a huge success and gave the students a unique and memorable experience. The art department hopes to organize more trips like this in the future to give students an opportunity to explore their artistic side and gain new skills.

The English School Year 4 Economics Revision Session to Take Place on 29/4

The session is expected to accommodate 112 students and will be divided into two parts.

The first part of the session, part A, will focus on labour markets and see the 112 students split into three groups of 37 students each. The groups will be accommodated in different rooms, including rooms N02 and N03, the lecture theatre, and rooms N10, N11, and N12. ESPA will provide snacks for the students during the session.

The times of the sessions are as follows: Session 1 from 9 am to 11 am, followed by a 15-minute break, and then Session 2 from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm.

We wish all Year 4 students the best of luck during the revision session and hope they find the session informative and helpful in their studies.

Table Tennis Club Concludes Year with Competitive Tournament

The tournament displayed competitive table tennis, with students from different classes and levels participating in the matches. After several rounds of intense games, the top three winners of the tournament were announced.

Deanna Peng, a student from 5 Black, took first place in the tournament. Giorgos Lingis from 4 Black emerged as the runner-up in the tournament, taking second place. The third place was claimed by Ara Mahdessian from 5 White.

We congratulate all the participants who displayed their skills and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. It was a great event, and the students who participated had a wonderful time. We also appreciate the effort of the school's Table Tennis Coach, Charalambos Tsissios, who ensured the smooth running of the tournament.

We look forward to the next Table Tennis Club session and hope to see more students participating in the upcoming tournaments.
