The final day of Arts Week commenced with a burst of energy as Band5A took the stage, showcasing their original compositions with gusto. Featuring the talents of Leonidas Zarifis, Daphne Charalambous, Yitian Wang, Platon Trapelides, and Peiqi Song, their performance set the perfect tone for the day ahead, infusing the atmosphere with infectious enthusiasm.
Following suit, Melina Angelides and Juliana Hills mesmerized the audience with their rendition of "Locked Out of Heaven," accompanied by the skilled musicianship of Iasonas Maratheftis on piano, Stefanos Georgiou on bass, and Yifu Zhou on drums. Their harmonious melodies and soulful voices resonated throughout the venue, leaving a lasting impression on all in attendance.
A highlight of the day was the captivating performance by members of the Junior and Senior Wind Bands, who delivered a spellbinding rendition of Holst’s “Jupiter.” Nedi Avraam, Andrea Iacovou, and Nefeli Polyviou on flute, Stephanos Georgiou on oboe, Eleana Iacovou, Christos Michael, and Angelos Michael on saxophone, Eleni Damianou on clarinet, and Nikolas Themistou on trumpet, showcased their exceptional talent and dedication to their craft, earning them thunderous applause from the audience.
As the curtains closed on Arts Week 2024, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the performers who graced the stage and enriched our closing day with their artistry and passion. From the opening whistle, it was evident that The English School meant business. The first half saw our girls dominating possession and dictating the tempo of the game. Anna-Maria set the tone with a remarkable goal, skillfully hooking the ball with the outside of her foot into the top corner, leaving the opposition goalkeeper stranded.
However, football is a game of twists and turns, and AEL Limassol fought back valiantly, equalizing against the run of play. Yet, our girls displayed incredible resilience and determination. Maria, with her unwavering focus, restored our lead with a sublime curling effort into the bottom corner, showcasing her precision and composure under pressure.
As the game entered its final stages, the tension was palpable. With the score tied at 2-2, it was a test of character for The English School. But true to their spirit, our girls rose to the occasion. A moment of brilliance ensued as Victoria initiated a swift counterattack with a precise long pass, setting the stage for Maria's second goal of the match, a testament to her anticipation and clinical finishing.
With victory within reach, Nayia put the game beyond doubt with a well-placed shot, capping off a stellar performance from the entire team. From defense to attack, every player contributed with grit and determination, embodying the true essence of teamwork and camaraderie.
