On Monday, 16 March, The English School travelled to American Academy Larnaca for a series of exciting 7v7 football fixtures, with more than 25 students representing the school across three teams: the Year 1–3 Girls, the Year 2 Boys, and the Year 3 Boys.
The afternoon was filled with energy, determination, and excellent sportsmanship, as all three teams competed with great enthusiasm and pride.
The Year 1–3 Girls produced a strong performance and took the lead in the first half thanks to a superb finish from Despina Panayides. The team worked tirelessly throughout the match, but American Academy found a late equaliser in the closing stages, with the game ending 1–1.
The Year 3 Boys showed tremendous resilience and character. After falling 3–0 behind, they mounted an impressive comeback, reducing the deficit to 3–2 with two outstanding goals from Michalis Christofides. Despite their spirited effort, American Academy managed to score again, and the match finished 4–2.
The Year 2 Boys also delivered a very competitive performance. They went 1–0 ahead through a composed finish by Markos Mavrides and looked strong for much of the game. However, a late goal from the hosts meant the match ended in a 1–1 draw.
The event was a wonderful celebration of participation, teamwork, and healthy competition across all age groups. Most importantly, it brought great joy to all those involved and highlighted the strong sporting spirit of our students. We hope this will continue as an annual tradition and look forward to future fixtures against American Academy Larnaca.
