European Champions: Aanvi Tandon & Sophia Cagnetti win the 2025 Women & Girls in STEM – Cyber Security Challenge

Two English School students took first place in Brussels with “LegiT,” an AI-powered browser extension that makes Terms & Conditions clear and flags risks—earning an invitation to present at the University of Cambridge this November.

The English School is proud to announce that students Aanvi Tandon and Sophia Cagnetti have been crowned European champions at the Women & Girls in STEM Forum 2025 – Cyber Security Challenge.  After winning the Cyprus national round, the duo competed against winners from 24 European countries at the grand final in Brussels, finishing first overall ahead of teams from the UK and Moldova.

For the competition, Aanvi and Sophia developed LegiT—an AI-powered browser extension that reads and simplifies Terms & Conditions. LegiT: translates complex clauses into plain language, highlights risky provisions (e.g., data sharing, auto-renewals, hidden fees), and flags potential threats to user privacy and security. Their live pitch combined technical clarity with a strong ethical stance on digital rights, impressing both the jury and audience.

The team’s journey began with Girls Go Circular, an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT) delivered in Cyprus by JA Cyprus, supported by mentors and teachers. Building on the programme’s modules, Aanvi and Sophia turned a classroom challenge into a real-world tool with the potential to help millions of users understand what they’re agreeing to online.  At the European final in Brussels, the top three teams presented to a jury of industry and academic experts. Aanvi and Sophia’s confident delivery, creativity, and clear responses during Q&A stood out—securing first place and the title of European Winners.

As part of their prize, the students have been invited to the University of Cambridge in November, where they will tour the campus, meet leading women in STEM, and present LegiT at an event hosted by the university.

Gratitude and acknowledgements
We extend warm thanks to JA Cyprus, programme mentors, teachers, and Presentation Mentor Ms Richa Tandon for their guidance and support throughout the journey.
