Economics Society Welcomes Dr Anthoulla Phella

On 6th February, the Economics Society had the pleasure of welcoming Dr Anthoulla Phella from the University of Glasgow’s Adam Smith Business School for an insightful session on Econometrics and the transition from A Level Economics to university study.

Dr Phella introduced students to the field of econometrics, explaining how it combines economic theory, mathematics and statistics to analyse data and answer real-world economic questions. The session helped students understand how economists move beyond theory to test ideas, measure relationships and interpret evidence in a rigorous and meaningful way.

The talk also provided a valuable overview of how the study of Economics develops from A Level to university level. Students were encouraged to think about the increased emphasis on analytical skills, independent thinking and quantitative methods in higher education, as well as the exciting opportunities that come with studying economics at an advanced level.

This was an excellent opportunity for students to gain a clearer picture of what to expect from university-level Economics and to engage with an academic working in the field. We are very grateful to Dr Phella for sharing her time and expertise with the Society.
