The ESOBGA Prize for English
- The prize is awarded to the student who achieves the highest mark in English Language or Literature. This is decided collaboratively by all year 7 English teachers using the mock examinations. Overall enthusiasm, contribution to English literature and language-related ECA and a passion for the subject will also be taken into account.
- The student must be taking A level English Language or Literature to completion in school in the correct year of sitting.

The English School Class of ’88 Team Spirit Award ‘in Memory of the Classmates who left us’
The main objective is to identify individuals who have come together (ad-hoc or organised) to form teams to carry out something which meets one or more of the following criteria:
- For the benefit of society (eg. carrying out a campaign for smoking, obesity, drugs etc.)
- For the benefit of individual(s) in need (eg. supporting morally a bullied student, or in kind someone who lost a parent)
- For making our school, city, or country better (identifying a problem eg. traffic hazards in the school and finding ways to resolve it)
- For the benefit of the environment (students carrying out a campaign about global warming, or tree-planting or beach cleaning.)
- Exhibiting ethos or social responsibility – putting others’ interests ahead of one’s own, the award may also go to an individual rather than a team if the act performed showed team spirit.
The award will not be directly related to academic performance.
Grant Thornton "Be the best you can be" Award for leadership
- This is a non-academic prize
- The prize will be awarded to a student in year 7 who embodies the CLEARR values at the heart of our culture:

- The recipient will have demonstrated this throughout their time at school, not only in year 7, through a variety of activities and initiatives which may include:
- Student Voice
- Extra Curricular Activities
- Model United Nations and Public Speaking
- Charities and ECO Schools
- Nominations will be made by year 7 students and all staff, considered by the Graduation Awards Committee and proposed to the SLT for final approval.
The ESOBGA Xenis Larkos Prize for Social Good, Active Contribution & Enthusiastic Commitment in the School and Wider Community
- The student will have been socially active in a variety of charity, volunteering, environmental and social justice projects and initiatives. They will have led by example, acting with the highest integrity to raise awareness and instigate action.
- The awardee will embody the combined community-action-service citizen qualities.
George Z. Georgiou & Associates Award for Resilience
- Awarded to a student who despite extreme challenges/adversity has accomplished good to excellent grades, has contributed to the school and behaved admirably.
- Adversity : the pupil should have been, over a sustained period, put under considerable stress or pressure, at home, school, health or other extenuating circumstances that means this pupil was at a disadvantage to their peers. Their actions and attitude enabled them, despite their situation, to perform both socially with peers and academically in order to graduate.
- Attitude : The pupil’s attitude to ongoing school work, classmates and engagement in activities is/has been/would be (in the case where fellow pupils are unaware of the situation) an inspiration and the pupil has shown true resilience under extreme circumstances.
Admire : The pupil’s general attitude, behaviour and commitment should be admired by peers and teaching staff alike. - Aspire: The pupil’s attitude and actions has enabled the pupil to succeed and aspire to do well despite the difficult circumstances.
EY Excellence in STEM Award “Building a Better Working World”
- The prize is awarded to the student who achieves the combination of:
- Highest mark in any of the following subjects taken by the student of:
Computer science, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Design & Technology. - All subjects taken in school, and exam sat in correct session.

- In addition, the student will have been involved in STEM activities such as Robotics Club, F1 in School, Entrepreneurship programmes such as JA, ECO schools etc
- The student will have displayed leadership, drive and initiative, and embody EY’s “building a better working world” philosophy.
Creative and Performing Arts Award for Contribution and Passion for Culture in the School
The recipient will be outstanding in the area of the creative and performing arts, including some of the below:

Sustained and active participation in related ECA, such as The Phoenix Student Magazine, Literature club, Debate Club member
ECA / CPA
Participation and involvement in creative and performing arts activities, including local trips, overseas cultural trips and opportunities provided by the school
Attendance / Merit
An outstanding record of attendance, positive leadership within school, an ambassador for the arts, a participant and patron of art events.
For Excellent Participation & Commitment to School Musical Events
- Prizes and Certificates will be awarded based on a combination of the following criteria:
- Long term participation and attendance in choir / orchestra / band with an excellent record in punctuality, attendance, team work, attitude (including in Year 7).
- Musical skill and contribution towards the high quality of performance groups, which may include leading sections, singing / playing solo, role model for younger students, ensemble skills (including in Year 7)
Excellence in Academic music, stand-out performance in composition, performance and / or history of music, musicology, research.
For Outstanding Contribution to MEDIMUN
The MEDIMUN prize is awarded to:
- The Secretary General
- The Deputy Secretary General
- The President of the General Assembly
For their long service and exceptional contribution to a school event
For Outstanding Contribution to the European Youth Parliament
- Students of Year 7
- The students selected have applied all their knowledge and experience obtained from EYP to guide and instruct younger students of year 4, 5 and 6 at our school.
- Chairs of a committees of at least 10 to 15 students preparing them weekly for minimum of three months with Team Building and Committee Work activities in order to participate in three or four EYP events representing the school.
- They have participated in National and International events representing the school as well as in Cyprus.
- Their involvement is EYP must be for at least 4 years.

- Awarded to the boy(s) with the best contribution to School Sport. This includes representing House and School in competition and achievements gained in one or more sport.
