Curriculum

Curriculum

At The English School, our mission is to promote academic excellence through high-quality teaching and learning. We aim to maximise individual potential by offering rich, engaging educational experiences in a safe and supportive environment—embracing modern pedagogy and technology.

Academic Structure

Our curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum and designed to develop confident, independent, and well-rounded learners.

  • Years 1–3: A broad foundation covering English, Greek/Turkish, Maths, Sciences, Humanities, ICT, Drama, Art, Music, a Modern European Language, PSHCE, and weekly Games.
  • Years 4–5: Students begin their IGCSE programme. English, English Literature, Maths, and Greek/Turkish are compulsory. Students select five additional subjects, including at least one from Humanities and Science.
  • Years 6–7: Students follow A-level programmes. Most take four IAS subjects in Year 6 and continue with three or four A-levels in Year 7. PSHCE continues, with an updated focus on Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) in line with Cyprus law.

Inclusion

The English School is dedicated to supporting all learners, including students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) due to learning differences, difficulties, or disabilities, as well as those identified as gifted and talented. Often, these characteristics may overlap, and our goal is to help every student reach their full potential.

The Apolytirion

The Apolytirion is a certificate of academic achievement awarded to Year 7 students and stamped by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Cyprus. Many universities accept it as a standalone qualification, with approximately 70% of our students receiving at least one university offer that includes the Cyprus Apolytirion.
