The English School Old Boys and Girls Association (ESOBGA)
Established in 1928
The English School Old Boys and Girls Association (ESOBGA) is the graduate organisation of The English School, Nicosia. Established in 1928 as the English School Old Boys Association (ESOBA), it was initially formed to maintain close ties among male graduates and promote the school’s sports, social, and cultural spirit. In 1962, the association expanded its membership to include female graduates, adopting the name ESOBGA.
ESOBGA’s mission is to preserve and strengthen the bonds among alumni, support the school’s objectives, and uphold its traditions. The association organizes various cultural, social, and sporting events, fostering a sense of community among members. Notably, ESOBGA has established sports teams that participate in activities promoting fair play and healthy competition, including hockey, basketball, and football.
In 1974, ESOBGA constructed its own clubhouse at the northeast corner of the school grounds, providing a dedicated space for alumni gatherings and events. The clubhouse underwent renovation in 2010 to better serve its members and support the association’s activities.
ESOBGA also contributes to the school’s community by offering awards and monetary prizes to students and graduates, recognizing academic and extracurricular achievements.
In 2019, The English School created an in-house Alumni Office to further strengthen its relationship with former students. This office works closely with ESOBGA to align efforts in supporting the alumni network and enhancing engagement between graduates and the school.
