Year 3 Students Pilot Innovative STEAM Project on Food Waste

During Term 2 of 2025, Year 3 classes 3G and 3J piloted the Erasmus+ DataScEd4CiEn STEAM project “Every Bite Counts: Tackling Food Waste Together”.

Working across PSHCE, Mathematics, Science, English, Design & Technology and Computer Science, students examined the causes and effects of food waste. They used a food waste calculator, analysed data from different countries, investigated composting and methane emissions, and considered the link between food waste and climate change.

Students also created awareness videos, persuasive writing, recipe cards and a digital cookbook using leftover ingredients. They used NotebookLM to analyse source material and produce briefings and podcasts on the environmental, economic and social effects of food waste.

The pilot informed the wider Year 3 implementation in 2026.
