Excellent Results from our Students in the National Phase of the European Statistics Competition
We are proud to announce that our School has achieved exceptional results in the National Phase of the European Statistical Competition 2022-23. The competition was organized by the Statistical Service, the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, the University of Cyprus, and the Cyprus Statistical Society.
The competition was open to all secondary education-age students who were studying at any officially recognized educational institution in Cyprus. Each team consisted of two to three pupils and a teacher from their institution who acted as the tutor. Our school was represented in the competition by Team STATIES consisting of three Year 5 students and one tutor, Mr Michalis Gavrielides.
The competition comprised of two assignments. In the first assignment, which included three parts, a total of 111 teams consisting of 322 students participated. The top 11 teams with the highest score in the upper secondary education category qualified for the second assignment, in which they had to prepare a statistical presentation based on the analysis of a dataset given by the organizers.
We are thrilled to announce that our students achieved the highest score among the upper secondary schools, winning the 1st award and the right to participate in the European phase of the competition. The first assignment included a basic knowledge test, the use of official statistical data sources test, and an interpretation of statistical reports test. Our students' outstanding performance in these tests is a testament to their hard work and dedication.
We would like to congratulate Ara Mahdessian, Eleni Christodoulou, and Agni Antoniadou, along with their tutor Mr Michalis Gavrielides, for their outstanding achievement in the competition. We wish them all the best for the European phase of the competition.
This achievement is not only a source of pride for our school, but it also highlights the importance of statistical education and the value of participating in such competitions. We are confident that this accomplishment will inspire other students to pursue their interests in statistics and related fields.
In conclusion, we would like to express our gratitude to the organizers of the National Phase of the European Statistical Competition for providing our students with the opportunity to showcase their skills and talents. We look forward to the European phase of the competition and wish all the participants the best of luck.
