At The English School, we take immense pride in our students, not only for their academic achievements but also for their strength and perseverance in the face of adversity. Today, we want to shine a light on one such student, Eleni Kirmizis in Year 4, whose story is a powerful testament to resilience and determination.

Eleni, a dedicated basketball player, has faced significant challenges over the past few years. Several months ago, she suffered a devastating injury, rupturing the ACL in her knee. The road to recovery was long and arduous, requiring surgery followed by over a year of intensive rehabilitation. Despite the physical and emotional toll, Eleni remained steadfast, working tirelessly to regain her strength and return to the sport she loves.

Just as she made her triumphant return to the basketball court, tragedy struck again. Eleni sustained the same injury, this time in her other knee. This means she will once again undergo surgery, scheduled after her Mock exams, and face another lengthy rehabilitation process.

Eleni’s story is not just one of setbacks but also of incredible resilience. Her unwavering spirit has inspired those around her, including the basketball community in Cyprus, who recently came together to honour her journey. A heartfelt article was published over the weekend, highlighting her courage and the support she has received from her peers and mentors.
