The English School proudly celebrates the remarkable achievements of its students in two prestigious national competitions that highlight excellence in science and computational thinking.

Stellar Success at the sCYence Fair 2025
On April 4, 2025, the annual sCYence Fair—now in its sixth consecutive year—once again brought together young scientific minds from across Cyprus. Among the standout participants was the English School team of Kyriacos Zapitis, Giorgos Loizou, and Andreas Kyriacou (Year 4), who triumphed in the High Schools category for their innovative project, Finding Exoplanets.

Their project involved developing a model to apply the transit photometry technique, a method used by astronomers to detect distant exoplanets. By simulating the process of detecting and analysing photometric data, the team showcased not only their understanding of astrophysical concepts but also their ability to interpret complex scientific data. The students successfully demonstrated how to estimate the accuracy of their results while also applying the method in practice to detect an exoplanet, reflecting a deep engagement with real-world scientific techniques.

This achievement highlights how the sCYence Fair continues to inspire students to explore, experiment, and think critically—laying the foundation for future scientific discovery.

Second Place Win at the Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge
Earlier this year, on February 25, 2025, Siddharth Raja Saravana (Year 2) claimed Second Place in the Gymnasium category at the Bebras Challenge final round—an international competition designed to foster computational thinking among students.

Organised in Cyprus by the Cyprus Computer Society in collaboration with the ICT Teachers Association and under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Athletics and Youth, the Bebras Challenge tests students’ analytical, algorithmic, and problem-solving skills. Siddharth’s exceptional performance places him among the country’s most promising young thinkers in computing and logic, and underscores the English School’s commitment to fostering interdisciplinary excellence.

A Legacy of Excellence
These accomplishments are a testament to the talent, curiosity, and hard work of our students, as well as to the dedicated support of our teaching staff. As we continue to encourage innovative thinking and cross-disciplinary exploration, the English School remains a proud hub for future scientists, engineers, and problem-solvers.
