The English School Leaving Certificate
The English School Leaving Certificate
The English School Leaving Certificate was the first graduation certificate/apolytirion from a non-government/public school recognized by the Ministry of Education in 1960.
Since then the English School Leaving Certificate in its current format has been recognized as equivalent to the Apolytirion given from government/public schools and gives the same rights to English School graduates to those of government/public schools. These rights include taking the “Proesagoges”/entrance exams for tertiary education in Greece and the University of Cyprus; entry to European universities; the civil service; semi-government organisations etc.
In those cases where a percentage mark is required or a mark from 20, the school has a conversion formula to generate such a mark to ensure that no student is disadvantaged. Such a mark can be generated in mid-August of the year of graduation.
The dedicated university entry team works closely with students and their parents to support students who wish to enter universities outside the UK.
The school re-visits the issue of the Leaving Certificate in the light of each university entry cycle and any other feedback and takes any actions necessary to ensure that it’s graduates are not disadvantaged in any way.
