The Greek Department participated in the symposium about the “Continuity of the Greek language” which took place on the 17th of October at the Conference centre “Filoxenia” in Nicosia.

The Department was represented by two teachers and a group of year 6 students who had the opportunity to listen to the speeches of distinguished professors. Our year 6 student, Mikalena Kokkinou was selected by the Ministry of Education and Culture to present a short speech on the same topic.
The title of her speech was “Is the Greek language under threat because of the use of the Greeklish”? Mikaelena refered to the reasons that young people prefer to communicate in Greeklish as well as in the role of the School and the society in protecting the Greek language.
Both the teachers and the students who attended the symposium felt that they spent a constructive morning by being able to listen to the speeches and to participate in the discussion that followed.
