Annual Pancyprian Table Tennis Tournament
The annual Pancyprian table tennis tournament took place on the 18th of February at the Table Tennis Federation Hall ‘Evangelos Florakis’. Athletes from all over Cyprus gathered for this big event summing up a total of 112 student athletes!
Our school could not miss out on this big event. Six of our athletes proudly represented our school.
Stefanos Xydas, Elias Liassides, Antreas Mlitiadous and Christophoros Nicolaou took part in the boys’ Gymnasium division. Christophoros Nicolaou advanced through to the next round after a comfortable win in the first match but finally lost in the 2nd round in a very tight score. The rest of the boys all lost in the tie break (2-1) but played really well against top athletes.
Vasiliki Kalimera, who was competing in the girl’s gymnasium division, had an unfortunate first round draw against the defending champion of the competition in her category. Nonetheless, Vasiliki played her top game and had a very competitive match leaving a very good impression to everyone watching the game.
Finally, in the Lyceum boys division Tilemachos Efthyvoulou was in great form. After winning two matches he made his way up to the semifinals which he lost to his club team mate Christophoros Efstathiou 3-1. Christophoros ended up winning the competition. Tilemachos secured a place on the podium with his honorary 3rd place! Well done Tilemachos! All that hard work during training has finally paid off!
Congratulations to all our athletes who took part in the competition, especially for their very good sportsman like behavior they showed during their matches, which is the most important thing.
The table tennis club continues weekly training, at the Sports Center every Wednesday at 1:30. Everybody is more than welcome to join us.
