Invitation to an Online Safety Talk for Parents

The English School Pastoral Team and The English School Parents’ Association (ESPA) cordially invite you to an Online Safety Talk.  On Wednesday,  13th March 2019, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.at The English School Lecture Theatre (Science Building).

Our children are growing up in a world, which is much more complex than the one we knew as youngsters.  In this age of technology, the use of the internet is an essential part of their daily lives.  Our children cannot live without it, nor should they have to.
 
As a School, we have noticed a rise in the number of incidents related to misuse of the internet, mobile phones, and social media such as Instagram, Facebook, and the like.  In fact, shocking new studies have revealed that sex offenders are grooming children on Instagram more than on any other online platform (BBC News, March 1, 2019), while additional evidence shows that the popular video game Fortnite is currently used by predators to approach children online. 
 
In this respect, we must educate our children and ourselves in this digitally evolving world.  We would, therefore, like to invite you to an Online Safety Talk for Parents, on Wednesday, March 13th, 2019.  The aim of this evening is to raise awareness about internet safety, and to highlight how families can promote healthy internet use, while keeping their kids safe online.
 
Our keynote speaker will be Mr Andreas Andreou, Vice President of Cyprus Safer Internet Centre CyberEthics.  Mr Andreou has implemented more than a hundred experiential workshops and talks to raise awareness about internet safety and the positive aspect of the internet among students, teachers and parents. Following Mr Andreou’s presentation, there will be a Question and Answer session.  Please feel free to send any questions in advance, via email, to pastoral@englishschool.ac.cy.
