The Design & Technology Department has assigned to all its Year 1 students a project, whereby in groups they need to create a music band and make their own musical instruments. The music they will play will be assigned to them during their music lessons and they need to use their newly created instruments to perform their music pieces.
The musical instruments' appearance needed to be cohesive amongst group members, but the instruments of each group had to vary in order to enable the students to explore different sounds but also different materials and manufacturing methods. The end instrument had to not only look good, but also work well and be comfortable to use.
Our students are now at the final phase of their project, where they will critically evaluate their instruments against their initial specifications, and also collect feedback from their friends on how well they have done!
