On March 21st, students across the world celebrated International Poetry Day. At our School, our Year 3 students marked the occasion by wrapping up their War Poetry Unit in English with an engaging and creative activity: blackout poetry.

Blackout poetry is a form of poetry that involves selecting words or phrases from an existing text and blacking out the remaining text on the page. The result is a new poem that is created using the words that have been selected.

Our Year 3 students were tasked with selecting a poem from their unit on war poetry and identifying keywords or phrases that spoke to them. They then used these words to create their own poem by blacking out the remaining text on the page.

The end result was a beautiful and thought-provoking display of individual interpretations of the original poem. The students' creativity and imagination were on full display during this activity. It was wonderful to see them engaging with and exploring the world of poetry uniquely and meaningfully.

We are proud of our students for their hard work and dedication, and we are thrilled to share their wonderful work with the world. Check out the photo of the students working on their blackout poetry (from 3 Yellow) below, and be sure to stay tuned for more updates on our students' creative expressions.

At The English School, we believe in fostering creativity, imagination, and a love of learning in our students. Activities like this one help us achieve that goal and create an environment where our students can thrive.

Thank you to the Year 3 students and 3 Yellow for allowing us to capture this special moment. Happy International Poetry Day!
