On Wednesday 5th of October, students of French had the opportunity to have a guided tour of the Paris collection.

Natasa Ioannou, a student in year 5, talks about her experience:
“The visit to the Leventis Art Gallery was indeed exciting.  A group of French students had a guided tour of the Paris exhibition, which included different paintings from different eras.

Firstly, we looked at the Middle Ages, in which people (especially the wealthy bourgeois) were painting still life. Through this interactive tour, we observed the vivid colours and extreme details the artists used.
Later, we moved onto modernism, which included impressionistic art, portraying abstract paintings expressing many feelings after the camera was created. People did not need to paint what they were seeing; thus, the era of Impressionism emerged.

When it comes to matters such as art, French is especially useful in understanding what is portrayed and its meaning, keeping in mind French culture. Working at a museum, interacting with French-speaking countries is almost essential. The tour guide, who was a former English schoolgirl, had informed us that her co-worker had gone to France to deliver a painting to the Louvre museum, and that was, of course, because they were fluent in French”.

The MLD department would like to thank the Leventis Gallery and especially Ms Theodora Demetriou for this fabulous opportunity
