2 cellos, from home!
Sophia Kleopa (1B )and Eleonora Savvidou (6J) are rarely seen around the school without their cellos.
Through countless hours of orchestra rehearsals for school events, and their shared love for the instrument and music, the two young cellists have developed a strong friendship. When lockdown happened and put a halt to all performance opportunities, the two cellists decided to take matters into their own hands and find a way to make music together yet again. As these two dedicated music students demonstrate, music is an unstoppable force, one that never ceases to connect people. Through an arrangement of Dimitri Shostakovich’s famous Waltz No.2 Sophia and Eleonora managed to beat the odds and play together, this time virtually!
“COVID-19. Lockdown. March - May 2020. The world might have stopped, but music continued. More than ever, during these difficult times, music had the power to reach our innermost self, offering solace, hope and light. So we came together, each one form our own home, to make music and experience the most profound gift music has to offer. That of communicating, sharing and resonating with each other. We were close yet apart. Looking forward to the day we'll all be together, playing together, once more!” – Eleonora Savvidou 6 Jade
“The coronavirus has forced us to socially isolate, miss our friends and school life, but playing this duet piece from our homes has opened new gates of communication in our lives, travelling us out of our houses, having fun and connecting with our friends through the power of music and our cellos. “ – Sophia Kleopa 1 Black
