Welcome message from the Chairman of the Board of Management

Today is the first day that all the School’s community is officially back for the new academic year ahead, and as the Chairman of the newly appointed Board of Management I would like to extend a warm welcome to all.  I am confident that this year our staff and students will again enable our School to live up to the excellent reputation it has always held which makes us all proud to be part of The English School family.

This year we not only have a new Board of Management (many of whom are English School graduates), a number of new staff, and our new students, but we are also pleased to see that our long-awaited new building is under way.  We are grateful to the Ministry of Education and Culture for this construction which will be in three phases and delivery is expected in the summer of 2018.   As Board, we appeal to your patience and understanding for the inevitable disruption, particularly during the first Phase which is expected to last until Jan 2017.  Both myself and members of the Board’s Buildings Committee were on site this morning to observe the traffic flow and the Board will continue to monitor the situation closely.   The drop-off point at the south side of the School (Athalassa Ave) is expected to be delivered by, or before, the end of January 2017 and this will help alleviate the problem.   We will endeavour to keep any disruption to a minimum, whilst also ensuring the safety of our community using the area.

As a new Board of Management, we are faced with many issues that need to be addressed, and subcommittees have been established to deal with these as swiftly as possible.  These include academic, buildings, health & safety, financial and HR matters.  In this, the Board has been reassured by ESPA, ESSA and ESOBGA that it will have their support and cooperation so that our School can function and flourish and offer our students the best available, both academically and in its infrastructure, to enable them to reach their full potential.
The Board of Management intends to have close cooperation with its stakeholders, and will be communicating with you shortly to outline its strategic goals and agenda.

On behalf of the Board of Management, I give you our assurance that we will do our utmost to offer the very best to our students, and I once again welcome you all to the new academic year and wish us all a fulfilling and successful 2016 – 2017.

Yours sincerely,
DR GEORGE THEOCHARIDES
Chairman of the Board of Management
